“This project aims to formalise and register artisanal gold producers in Orientale province, where the bulk of the DRC’s gold is produced. By linking artisanal producers with buyers in a closed pipe chain, the project will create a fully transparent chain with taxes and royalties paid to DRC government.
Shortening the chain of custody may also make it possible to offer better prices to artisanal producers. It is expected that the project will lead to the region’s first ICGLR-certified exports of clean, conflict-free DRC gold.”
