Dr. Wilson Winstons Muhwezi is a Research Director at Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment as well as an Associate Professor of Behavioral Sciences and Mental Health in the School of Medicine, Makerere University College of Health Sciences. Over his teaching career, he has mentored students at Makerere University in the former faculties of Social Sciences and Medicine since 1993. He was also a Lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Uganda Christian University from 1999 to 2004. He attained a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Social Administration (BA.SWSA) Degree from Makerere University in 1992. In 1996, Dr. Muhwezi was awarded a Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund Scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies at the University of Bergen, Norway where he graduated with an M.Phil (Public Health and Health Promotion) in 1998. In 2003, he was awarded the SIDA-SAREC Scholarship to undertake a jointly awarded PhD by Karolinska Medical University (Karolinska Institutet), Stockholm and Makerere University, Kampala. He completed his doctoral studies in 2007 and was awarded a PhD in the same year. In 2011, he was awarded a 3-year post-doctoral fellowship by SIDA-SAREC which was accomplished in 2013. He has several trainings in research notably; philosophy of science, qualitative methods in health systems research, quantitative research methods, measurements in mental health, statistical methods and computer applications, information competence and management, scientific writing, healthcare research ethics, good clinical practices and ethical conduct, and many others. Wilson has been a senior researcher and principal investigator on research projects funded by USAID, the World Bank, European Commission as well as Bill and Mellinda Gates Foundation. He have a wealth of over 20 years of experience in design and implementation of baseline/needs assessment/situation analyses; environmental impact analyses, monitoring and evaluation studies; psychosocial studies, reproductive health and mental health. The uniqueness of his experience arises from his involvement with all matters that straddle social sciences and health sciences. He is comfortable to work in multi-disciplinary teams and has authored over 20 scholarly articles, many published in international peer reviewed journals, policy papers/briefs on topical issues and consultancy reports.
